The Ghanaian police have introduced drone monitoring technology to combat illegal mining activities

To curb the increasingly serious problem of illegal gold mining (Galamsey), the Ghanaian police recently deployed a drone monitoring system to conduct real-time inspections of key mining areas. These drones are equipped with high-definition cameras and thermal imaging technology, which can monitor illegal mining activities around the clock and synchronize data to the command center for prompt law enforcement.

In the pilot operations in the Ashanti Region and the Western Region, the police have used drones to assist in dismantling several illegal mining sites and arresting dozens of suspects. Environmentalists believe that this measure helps reduce the damage to forests and water sources caused by illegal mining, but it requires continuous investment to consolidate the results.

Trend Analysis: Ghana is actively leveraging drone technology to address two key issues - the distribution of medical resources and environmental safety governance - demonstrating the innovative practices of African countries in the application of technology.
